TLN Podcasting Workshop – Thursday 30th July

If you follow this exciting link, you will visit an external site where we are going to be sharing our thoughts on Podcasting.

Why do we bother with the whole blogging thing?

So lately I have been pondering the question – why do people bother with the whole blogging thing?  I mean, some of the blogs that you read are awful whilst others are outstanding.  So why do people bother?  From an education perspective, people seem to blog to share resources.  I must say that in the past year or so, I have followed a number of blogs for a number of different reasons using iGoogle.  Thank goodness that I found that tool.  Without it, I would be lost.  I used to run a very successful basketball blog called Basketball and Everything in Between.  The blog had a purpose – it was news and opinon based.  But I lost motivation (I started at a new school and didnt have the time to keep it up and running) and it sort of just fizzled away into nothing.  I recently ventured out into the Twitter revolution and that has opened my eyes to the awesome stuff that educators do out there.

My biggest struggle over the past month or so with this blog has been giving it a purpose or a theme.  What can I contribute to the world.  This morning I decided that I would try and blog on a regular basis about some of the web 2.0 tools that I stumble upon and the context that they could possibly be used in.  Not overly sure how it is going to go but I will endeavour to be entertaining and humerous.

Twitter……why didn’t I realise earlier?

Ok.  I will admit when I am wrong.  When the whole Twitter thing came into being, my first thought was ‘So what, I already have Facebook.  What would I need it for?’  I declined the join onto the revolution and thought that Twitter was for fools and all it was was Facebook status updates.

I stumbled upon Mr Robbo’s blog and was amazed at some of the stuff that he was doing.  My class has a little radio show and I thought that it would be great for them to interview him on some of the cool ICT stuff that he does.  So the email from myself was forwarded onto my esteemed colleauge in Victoria.  He suggested that I get my butt in line and join the Twitter revolution.  Boy was I glad that I did.

The best part is that once you have access to profesional discussion from all around the world all of the time at your finger tips.  I still think that I would not use it for my personal networks (e.g Facebook is the better option) but it is awesome for what it is.  I was lucky enough to get some suggestions of people who I should follow.

So there you go.  If you are not aboard the bandwagon yet, jump on.  I did and I am glad for it.  This is a pretty crappy blog entry.  I used to have an awesome basketball blog.  I will get more practice in!

Where did this post go?

Where did this end up

My first real attempt to enter the world of blogging

Well after a few false starts, I have decided to finally enter the magically world of blogging and what an exciting journey I am sure that we will go on together.  This blog is going to have two sections:

1. All of my educational ICT stuff.  I am pretty keen on this stuff and am a huge believer in it.  My kids love interacting with technology and I am trying to get them to develop into critically ICT users.

2. Basketball.  This is my other passion (apart from my lovely wife and child)  I am going to be adding stuff as we go and entering the wonderful world of basketball blogging.

So please leave a comment to make me feel very special.

This is my first go at this
